Life As A Mist

I know that there are a lot of people who say, One of these days, I'll become a Christian. One of these days, I'll get saved. Right now I'm not ready yet, right now I'm still want to do things I haven't gotten to do yet, and just live life up a bit. But down the road at some point, I'd like to get saved. I think there are a number of people who say this, and have this thought in their heads that one of these days they will, but not yet. The question is, do you have until one of these days? Do you even have until tomorrow?

James 4:13-14 says,

13Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: 14Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

We think we have all the time in the world. Even if you live a long life, it's really just a short while if you think about it. The Bible itself refers to life here as a mist that's here for a little while and then gone. Think of how quickly a mist comes and goes. And, there are a lot of us who have much shorter time than we realize.

Most of the time, people don't realize when their time is about to be up. It comes before they even know what's happening.

Something that happened recently that opened my eyes more to how quickly something can happen, how uncertain every day is. I was in the car with my sister, travelling down an interstate, and there was a big metal part that came off of a car not far in front of us. We didn't notice it until we were basically right upon it. I saw it just before we got to it, and my sister didn't see it at all until after we went over top of it. Fortunately, we stayed on the road, and didn't lose control of the car, but we hit it hard. We felt a thump really hard, and heard like a grind under the car, and immediately after that happened (My window was rowed down), I could smell gas. I was like, Whoa, what happened there? We pulled over and there were people nearby that shouted to us that there was something pouring from the car. We got out, and the gas tank had gone down to empty. We made a phone call for someone to come and pick us up, and then someone came to get the car and check it out. Well, when they came and got the car we were told that apparently when we hit the thing in the road, everything on our car having to do with fuel got hit. The fuel injector was shredded. The gas tank had a huge gash in it. And, they were just amazed because of the metal on metal, it should've created sparks, and the sparks would've ignited the fuel. They were just amazed, saying they had no idea how we didn't have a massive fire to deal with. They had no idea why it didn't go up right when it happened. Even hearing all of that it at first didn't quite hit me just how close we came. I really attribute that to God, for protecting us, and being the reason why we are still here. He wasn't quite done with us yet. But it really woke me up also to the fact that, there we were just travelling down the road, going to go to the mall and the bookstore, and along the way we came so close to eternity. So close, and we had no idea until we got on the road, having no idea that anything like that could possibly happen. By the grace of God, we were okay, but it could've turned out very differently that day.

So often, so many of us just go about our daily lives not thinking about how much time we may have left, how much security we may have. We have no promise for tomorrow. We have no promise for next week. All we have is right now, and then, what comes next. The question is, for each individual person, what will come next? Are you ready today? Are you ready at this moment? If you were to go out, get in your car and drive down the road, then be in a fatal accident, would you be okay spiritually? Would you be ready? I think this is something everyone needs to think about. Don't think in terms of One of these days, because one of these days we won't be here.

Will you be ready to get saved "one of these days" just right before you die? Or, will you put it off for too long. Those of you waiting, will you put it off for too long, and then it be too late? So think about it. Will you be ready? If it happened today, would you be ready?
