Why Would A Merciful God Condemn Good People?

One question that is frequently posed by skeptics is, If God is so good and so merciful, how could He condemn someone simply because they didn't get saved?

Something that people have a hard time understanding though, is that, really there are only two choices. That is either: Choose God by repenting of your sins and accepting Jesus Christ, or you reject Him. There's no neutral ground. There's no in-between. You either accept Him or you don't.

We have a tendency to look at things from a physical standpoint. We don't see the spiritual side, the spiritual implications, and what things really mean. Say, for instance, we look at a person who spent their life giving to the community, trying to help people out. Basically trying to 'do good deeds'. Some people will look at that person and think they are really a great person, and should even be a model for the rest of us to look up to. Surely they have earned their spot in Heaven. But you see, the thing is, none of us, no matter what we do our how good we try to lead our lives, none of us deserve Heaven, none of us can earn Heaven. That's not how it works.

You see, no matter what good deeds may fill our lives, we are still sinful beings. Even one sin would be a dark blot overtop of us, and that one sin, even if we somehow manage to live the rest of our lives perfectly, just that one sin alone is enough to keep us separated from God. It's enough to close off our access to Paradise. And, as far as sin goes, humanity is the one who looks at different things and tries to determine how it levels with each other. We're the ones who say, This one's better than that one. In God's eyes, though, that's not the case. Sin is sin in God's eyes. That's just how it is. So, even the tiniest of things that we could do in our own eyes, in God's eyes it's just as bad or worse as what we see in the sinners out there.

No matter what we do on our own, we can't hide that. We can't overcome that. The Bible says in Isaiah 64:6...

But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

No matter how good we try to do, if it's on our own, without Jesus, and without living with the Holy Spirit within us, all of our good deeds are like a polluted garment. It's like filthy rags. Nothing we do is going to bridge that gap between us and God. We can't compensate for that sinful nature by ourselves. That's why Jesus is so crucial. He is the only way, as He said Himself, no one comes to the Father except by Him.

Now, ages ago, Lucifer was the highest of all the angels in Heaven. He let his pride get the better of him. He tried to set himself above God, and he led a rebellion in Heaven. In the process, he and a third of Heaven's angels were cast out, and through that act they became as what we now know as Satan and his demons. At this time they are awaiting their final judgment which will be them ending up in the lake of fire. The lake of fire is something that was created for them, however, when mankind fell, we received that sinful nature, and if we don't come to God then we will end up sharing in their judgment, in their punishment.

Rejecting God ends up aligning you with the adversary, even when it's not the intention that you have. With so many, that's not the intention they may have, but that's the outcome. Like I mentioned before, there's only two choices. You either accept Jesus or you reject Him. So many things in our lives seem to be on neutral ground, but if we're not careful, these things will keep us distracted from the fact that we need to make this choice. We keep ourselves concerned and busy with so many things that seem so urgent and so important at the time, when in fact we distract ourselves from the most important thing of all, and that's Jesus and the matters of the spirit.

So, in the end of our lives, even if we've always done our best to do good, yet we die without Jesus, then that's it. If we don't repent, then we will end up sharing in the punishment of the devil and all of those who followed him. There are no second chances. There is no in-between. You either serve God, or you don't, and you will receive the outcome from the choice that you make.

If you haven't done so, you need to get right with God. There's nothing else in life that's important. There's no time more crucial, because we have no promise for tomorrow. None. You may be feeling like you don't want to do that now, but maybe later on. Don't put it off. It's crucial. We have no guarantees on what's going to happen next. We have no guarantees that we'll even take another breath. There are literally thousands of people in this world today who will not be here tomorrow, and we have no way of knowing if we're going to be one of those people or not. Make that choice soon. Make it today. Make it now. God is waiting for you to come to Him, and He wants it to be now. So really, really think about it. If you've not gotten right with God, really think about it, and come to Him now. All you have to do is give yourself over to God. You come to Him and repent of your sins. Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. It's as easy as that. People will look at it sometimes and try to complicate things, but it is so simple. You just have to believe, repent, and accept HIM. He's waiting for you now. He wants to be with you now. Jesus bless you.
