Casey Anthony - July 6, 2011

There's been a lot of emotional investment in the recent trial of Casey Anthony. This is no surprise considering the subject matter, what it was over. And there's been, needless to say, a rather strong response to the unexpected outcome of the trial. I believe it was the evening of the verdict when I was online reading through a discussion on a message board that I go to sometimes. They were discussing the verdict, sharing different opinions on the outcome of it. But there was one response I read on it that I thought was very profound, and really stood out. If you're a Christian, or if you feel any leadings towards Christ in any way, it's hard to hear it and not just kind of stop and think. It was very profound, and very humbling. It was a quote that said (referring to the perspective of God the Father), Casey Anthony may have killed her child, but your sins killed mine. Like I said, it was just, very humbling to read.

Regardless of whether Casey was guilty or innocent, and I have my own thoughts on it but I'm not going into them. When Christ came to this earth, He came to this earth to die. And it was because of our own actions, every single one of us, that this happened. If we really stop and think about it, every time we've ever sinned, even what we'd consider a small sin, something that may seem so insignificant to us like a "white lie" - every single one Christ came to this earth for the sole purpose of dying so that sin would be covered.

Every time that we lie, speak out in anger against someone, have or act on a lustful thought, every time we do anything that is sin, whether it be big or whether it be little, Christ died for it. So if we're out, drinking and living it up for one night, everything we've done that night, Christ received a blow to His face for, He paid for that. Every time you fib to your parents, He received a slash in the back for. Every time that we get mad and decide to tell someone off, cuss them out, whatever the case may be, He received a nail through His hands for. Everything we do, even when we're saved, because if you think about it in order to be saved that sin had to be covered by His sacrifice. Every sin, He paid for. He suffered for. He died for. We find ourselves enjoying things of the flesh sometimes, things we shouldn't be enjoying, and we don't stop to think about the cost of this.

So often, we'll see people such as Casey Anthony and think to ourselves how horrible this person is, but we so often ignore our own shortcomings, our own faults and sins, because to us what we do doesn't seem so bad. But in the grand scheme of things, in the eyes of God, sin is sin, no matter how great or small, it's sin, and in order to be forgiven there has to be a sacrifice. There is no salvation if any sin can be seen on us in His eyes. That's the only reason why Jesus came. We're so quick sometimes to point out these other people, but we need to stop and consider and remember our own lives and actions. Even when we're saved people will often use that as a license to sin, and figure it's okay because they're saved. But no. God demands obedience. He wants us to be obedient to Him. It just seems that so often in the Church people forget this, or they're not aware of this. We just take it for granted the cost for our sin, and the payment that was made.

Yes, if in fact she's guilty, what was done is a horrible thing. But if we'll really stop and think about it, Christ died for Casey Anthony just as much as He died for you and me, our families, our friends, our neighbors, even those we find it hard to have sympathy for... He died for them, too. He died for all of us.

It's just something worth thinking about. God bless you all.

He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. ~ John 14:21 (KJV)

3And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

4He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

5But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

~ 1 John 2:3-5 (KJV)
