So You Want To Be A Witness?

I'd like to share some ideas with you on ways we can witness to people, and different ways we can get God's message out to the world. I've come up with a list of things we could try, and help us get the message out there.

Spread the word of God by using Facebook, Twitter, & MySpace

If you have an account on any of these places, you could use it as a means to share the gospel. Twitter has just the small sections that we can type in to share that way. But I know that with facebook and myspace, in addition to the little comments that you can make, they also have opportunities for notes and journal entries where you can make it however long you want to make it. Whatever topic you may want to talk about, just type it all out and submit it. However many people you may have on your friends' list, these people have the opportunity to see what it is that you wanted to share with them. Think of how many people you have the potential of reaching. When you take into account that a lot of people will add, in addition to friends and family, people such as old friends from high school or even old acquaintances from high school, people you work with now and used to work with. There are a lot of people you have the potential of having on your friends' list.

A lot of people have a large number of contacts on their friends' list, so in just one submission there's all that potential of people reading whatever it is that's put out there. You never know who or how many people may have been receptive or seen something in the posts that spoke to them in some way. The cool thing with facebook is they even have the opportunity to create groups and pages with a certain theme to it. Like, some people will do a page for their favorite movie or book, just whatever, and you can create one of these and have it dedicated towards Christian discussions, Christian talk. You can also send out invitations to everyone on your friends' list, and perhaps they will send out invitations, and so it has the potential of growing even more from there. When you add the messages on this group, and then others start adding messages and discussions on this group as well, then there becomes the potential for it to go even beyond who you may have simply on your friends' list.

A Where's George Approach

Have you seen sometimes where you'll get a dollar and it has a Where's George? message along the border of it, showing where you can go to the website and find out where that particular dollar bill has been moving around to? Well, if people can use the Where's George? thing and look into that and check that out, then why not add something Christ related instead? Whether it be a particular book, chapter, and number of a verse you have in mind, or even a simple message such as "Jesus loves you" or "Jesus saves", something like that. Or even maybe a link to a website with information and different Christian articles, or even a youtube channel that has videos you find particularly interesting. Whatever it is that has spoken to you, you could put the address for that website, and then it gets passed around. It's not just something that people will throw away, because it's money. People aren't going to toss out their money, so even if they're not interested, they will at least have the information available at some point in their hand, and may at some point catch their attention. Maybe it will plant a seed, maybe it won't, but at least it will carry that potential as it passes through so many hands. It could reach so many people.

Blessing Notes

Another idea that I actually learned from someone on youtube (user name mhar4088)... You could take a sheet of paper, and just kind of section it off where you can have all these different sections throughout it, and with each section you could have a little message written, then come to another section and there's another message, doing that all through the sheet of paper. Each section could have the same message if you want, or you could do a different message for each one, and do this with as many sheets of paper as you feel inclined to. If you happen to have access to a copier, that could help out a lot. Once you get all of the messages on the paper that you want to include, then you just use a pair of scissors and snip them out until you have individual, small slips of paper. Then you just take them with you and leave them in different spots here and there for people to find.

For example, say you're at a grocery store, you could put one of the slips of paper on a shelf beside some groceries for someone to come across. If you're at a clothing store, you could take some slips of paper and maybe stick them here or there in pockets of pants or in coats, or even inside of a shoe somewhere, just barely inside so it doesn't get lost or something. If you're at a bookstore, you could go to the best sellers rack and stick a slip of paper in the books, one of each if you feel so inclined. However you want to do it. But take one of the slips of paper with your message on it, and put it inside of the book(s) you choose, close it and someone will see it when they either flip through it or buy it and take it home, and there's the message waiting for them as they come across it.

Create A Flyer

Another thing you may want to do is create a flyer with whatever kind of message on it that you feel like putting out there. One that I've used before is what's also known as the Romans road to Salvation. There are various verses throughout the book of Romans that, when you put them together, it basically lays out the plan of salvation, what it is, how to be saved. Just simply Bible verses laid out for people to read and maybe if they previously didn't understand will look at it and think "Oh, that's how you do it", or something like that. But whether it be with the Romans road, or whatever else you want to use instead, just take the flyers out and post them in different areas. There are certain areas you can post them for public posting, or whatever, and just post them up there with the other papers for people to come across while searching for other things. You could go to a parking lot and put the flyers under the windshield wipers of some of the cars there. If it's not a very windy day so that it doesn't get blown away, and you have like a pebble or something to use as a paper weight, you could even leave the flyers on benches and picnic tables, or even just pass them out to people.

Speaking of passing things out to people, in a previous message I talked about storing up Bibles in case we reach a point in our lifetime where Bibles are scarce and there's not a lot of access to them. Someone posted a comment on the video that I made about the Bibles, and I thought he shared a really cool idea. He said, "I have been for years buying what they have and handing them out...with no less than a few always on the passenger seat ready for whomever God places it upon me to do so, and having me do so? to some very unlikely people at times I have to say, but there by the grace of God go I....one friend has after almost 8 years sought God and the transformation I see is beyond description...God is awesome!" So, the idea of even having Bibles, whether you buy them for this purpose or if you have extra Bibles around the house, whatever the case may be, but if you don't have any particular plans for them, what this person suggested is that you hand them out to people that you see, or as you see fit. After 8 years one of his friends sought God. So, who knows, if you pass out Bibles, maybe this will reach someone else that may be put into your path. But I thought that was a pretty cool idea also and wanted to share it with you guys.

There are just so many different ways to go about it, so many different ways to get His message out there. There's so many different ways to witness. The one that I think a lot of the times scares people is this face to face witnessing. But sometimes just talking to someone can do a world of good. Whether it's something that's just a small comment geared toward getting someone to think, or even a full conversation. But whatever you do, whether it be face to face or even online, talking with someone, I think it's really important not to argue about it, because I think when we do that it becomes almost like a pride issue. The other person might actually shut down to any input that you have to share with them, and it becomes more of a matter of winning the debate. If we can simply just manage to share what we have to share, and let them either receive it or reject it, just share what it is that you want to say, and let the Holy Spirit take care of the rest. If the seeds fall on good ground, the Holy Spirit will then help it to sprout and to grow. But if it falls on bad ground, then we've probably done at least what we hoped to do.

These are just a few of the ideas that I came up with while thinking about this. If you have any ideas that you'd like to share, or even if you have any experiences or witnessing stories you'd like to share, I'd love to hear about it. I hope that something I've brought up here will help you with either taking on these ideas or maybe even triggering new ideas.

18And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

19Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

20Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

~ Matthew 28:18-20 (KJV)
